A monochromatic landscape, black and white oil paint is more than simply black and white paint. There are over five different types of black oil paint, and more than seven whites. Using black and white is a technical challenge, as black shift into color as it is tinted with white. The different types of white vs the different types of black is something I have experimented with for a long time before making this painting, and I believe I have become adept at producing good results. Waterfall IV is a piece that took over four years to create. Early in making it, I had difficulty with the composition. I had to rework this piece three times over the years. I finally finished it, and I am happy with the results. I am glad I worked through the issues, and proud of what it became.
